Enhancing stakeholder reporting through data-collection frameworks

Written by Ruben Goossens

Leading a project as an intern at BrightWolves

On my second day at BrightWolves, I met BambooLogic, the winner of the public vote of the Sustainability Challenge 2022. This hands-on approach would become distinctive for the rest of my internship. My coach, Lode Verbruggen, would continuously encourage me to work autonomously on the project while providing sufficient guidance. Whenever I felt uncertain about the direction to take, other Wolves were on standby to offer their insights and steer me in the right direction. The possibility of working on a client project was a unique opportunity to develop a rich plethora of consulting skills.

Data tracking is ineffective due to unclear reporting standards

We are in a transition phase where standards and guidelines on carbon emissions reporting could be more precise. What kind of data should stakeholders report? To what accuracy should this data be tracked? This uncertainty often leads to two opposite reactions. On the one hand, companies underestimate the scope of their most important metrics. On the other hand, companies overestimate the scope, leading to tracking unimportant data. Agricultural emissions reporting is one of the most uncertain areas.

Where BrightWolves can help BambooLogic find clarity

Because of this clouded view surrounding reporting, BambooLogic wanted to create a clear framework for stakeholder reporting. This framework should encompass metrics regarding carbon emissions, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and soil quality. Data gathering alone cannot provide deep insights. Therefore, dashboards should be built to benchmark SDG performance measures and soil health monitoring.

How BrightWolves created a clear path to effective stakeholder reporting

At BrightWolves, we tackled specific problems by combining our broad sustainability reporting knowledge with deep research into current standards and norms. After mastering these topics, we pinpointed the key metrics required for reporting to BambooLogic's stakeholders. In the project's final phase, we incorporated these key metrics into a data collection framework with an interactive dashboard, allowing our client to improve and adapt to changes in performance continuously.
