What Does an Engagement Lead at BrightWolves Really Do?

Ever wondered what it takes to lead client projects, mentor rising consultants, and still stay hands-on with the work? At BrightWolves, the role of Engagement Lead is all about striking that balance and driving both team and client success.

In our latest video, we follow Lars Maebe, one of our Engagement Leads, through a tour at the office to uncover what this role is all about. If you're curious about growing into leadership within consulting, or just want to understand what makes BrightWolves different, keep reading (and make sure to watch the video below!)

From Analyst to Leader: A Growth Journey

Lars joined BrightWolves right after graduating four years ago and steadily built his career path, starting as a Business Analyst, moving into a Consultant role, and now leading as an Engagement Lead. Over the years, he’s worked on multiple client projects across industries and contributed to internal initiatives, from building market reports to organizing internal events, like the ski trip at BrightWolves.

“At BrightWolves, you can grow the company from within, regardless of your title.”

What Does an Engagement Lead Do?

The Engagement Lead role blends delivery, leadership, and mentorship

  • You’re still responsible for delivering high-quality work on client projects.

  • At the same time, you lead a team of business analysts and consultants, helping them grow through coaching and 1:1 support.

  • You’re also deepening your own domain expertise, whether that’s in sustainability, digital, data, or strategy.

One of the biggest misconceptions? That the job is mostly about selling. “Of course, contributing to commercial success is a plus,” says Lars, “but the core of the role is really team leadership and expertise building.”

The Skills That Matter

According to Lars, the top 3 skills for success as an Engagement Lead are:

  1. Coaching skills: guiding others to reach their full potential.

  2. Time management: juggling your own deliverables while supporting others.

  3. Eagerness to learn : growing every day, in both technical and leadership areas.

Mentoring with Intention

Mentorship at BrightWolves isn’t a box to tick. It’s about empowering people to take ownership.

“Mentoring means giving others the opportunity to discover new things, and the responsibility to prove what they’re capable of. That’s how growth happens."

A Culture of Excellence and Enjoyment

When asked to describe BrightWolves in three words, Lars chose: dynamic, disruptive. and excellent.

“We’re not your average consulting firm. We’re young, ambitious, and committed to delivering impact, with a strong culture of trust and autonomy, he explains.

Of course, it’s not all work. Lars also highlights the company’s vibrant after-work events and names the Sustainability Tribe as his favourite tribe to work in:

“Sustainability is the cornerstone of what we should offer as a company.”
